Today I woke up on the other side of the world. This place is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. From the moment I woke up I have been intoxicated by a cocktail of jet lag and culture shock. The drive from the airport alone was a montage of a new world. There were mosques on most street corners, colorful lights on the highway medians, and posters of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyen celebrating the 40th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates. On the television of the hotel lobby there was camel racing.
I’m now sitting outside, looking over this amazing landscape. On my left is miles of endless desert, on my right is the Arabian Gulf, and directly before me is the city of Dubai, a diamond in the rough if ever there was one. The sweet salt air from the Gulf mixes with the cool desert wind to trick my nostrils with the illusion of a tropic somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, but my eyes keep me honest. This is going to be an adventure.
